Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was founded in 1985 through an Act of Parliament. It offers high-quality education through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode. Currently, the public university has 67 regional centres, 21 schools, 29 international partner institutions, around 2,665 learner support centres and more than 3 million students.

- Admission to the majority of the programmes at IGNOU is granted based on the candidate's merit and score in the qualifying degree.

Indira Gandhi National Open University Scholarships
All applicants have to pay the full fee at the time of admission. However, IGNOU students from reserved categories (Physically Handicapped, Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes) are entitled to fee reimbursement from the governments of their states. Also, the university's students are eligible for the National Centre for Promotion of Employment of Disabled People (NCPEDP) scholarship scheme for postgraduate level programmes. Students can apply directly to the awarding authority directly.
